This includes discussing the benefits of homeownership and introducing some of the barriers as well as an overview of the steps in the homebuying process.
In this one on one session the counselor will analyze and interpret your credit report; make an assessment of your current status; and develop and implement a customized corrective action plan Post-Purchase Counseling The objective is to show new homeowners how to maintain their homes, protect their investment, and manage the new expenses and responsibilities of homeownership. Default/Foreclosure Prevention This includes foreclosure counseling on how to restructure debt, obtain recertification for mortgage subsidy, establish reinstatement plans, seek loan forbearance, and manage household finances. Rental Counseling This refers to one-on-one counseling and group education sessions regarding: obtaining and utilizing rent subsidies, budgeting for rent payments, education on landlord/tenant rights, the eviction process, and homeless prevention.
Helps the homebuyer to understand the importance of establishing a budget, identifying family income and expenses, and setting goals and priorities.
HCEM counseling assists clients who are 62 years or older with the opportunity to convert the equity in their homes into income to pay living, medical, or other expenses.
The homebuyer traning is designed to teach families about the homeownership process. Licensed instructors discuss a wide range of topics related to homeownership. Upon completion of the two part session, certificates are awarded. Housing Advocacy Family Resources advocates for affordable housing at the local, state and national level. Through our memberships partnerships and affiliations our staff attends various neighborhood association meetings, state and national housing conferences as well as other local housing public forums.
A matched savings account from which participants meeting income guidelines may withdraw funds to acquire a home. Eligible participants make regular deposits into a savings account where for every $1 saved there is a $4 match. For example, if a participant saves $1,000 the program matches these funds with $4,000, for a total of $5,000. Contact either office for more information.
